Build more training centres, automobile repairers told

-

SIBU: Sibu Automobile Repairers Association ( Sara) has been urged to provide more vehicle maintenance training centres for those interested in learning the skills.

President of Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party ( SPDP) Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, who is also Bintulu MP, said this would cultivate bluecollar talent for the community and improve the quality of all technical personnel.

“We all know the traditional concept, where parents prefer their children to take up whitecollar jobs, but the reality of social development does not reflect this.

“So I hope that today’s parents will realise that blue- collar talent is also the backbone of social development – work environment, salary, promotion and development prospects ( for blue- collar workers) are not inferior to white- collar workers’,” he said in his text of speech was read out by SPDP Dudong chairman Teo Boon Siew at Sara’s Pre- Chinese New Year gatheringcumpresentation of education incentives to outstanding students at the civic centre here on Saturday evening.

Tiong, who is also the Prime Minister’s special envoy to East Asia, said cars were a means of transport for human beings and the lives and safety of drivers and passengers should be a priority.

He said car repair businesses should not use unknown car parts and/or inferior parts just because the owner could not afford to bear the cost of maintenance, which could compromise their safety while on the road.

Boon Siew also pointed out that with the continuing increase in car ownership, many people owned cars but did not know how to maintain them, which would cause traffic safety problems. Thus, with motor transport becoming a necessity in modern society, more employment opportunities would arise in the automobile repairing industry.

The development of the automobile industry and the extensive application of high technology in cars require maintenance personnel to possess high- level skills, he further stated.

Meanwhile, Sara chairman Teo Ngiin Poh called upon automobile repairers to upgrade their skills and knowledge in tandem with the fast development of automobile technology as this would augur well for their car maintenance and repairs trade.
