Police: Informers will be protected

MIRI: The identity of those providing informatio­n on criminals and crime activities will be withheld and protected by the police.

This assurance came from head of Community Crime Prevention and Safety Section DSP Ang Seow Aun when delivering a talk on ‘Crime Prevention and How to Lodge a Police Report’ to villagers from Kampong Senadin Jaya, Kampong Merikan, Kampung Pasir and Kampung Sealine yesterday.

During the talk, which was part of the three- day Kampung Senadin Jaya Committee ‘One Heart One Soul Carnival’, Ang called on the villagers to cooperate with the police on enhancing and maintainin­g safety and security in the area.

“The community cannot depend entirely on the police and we need the community to work together and cooperate by being diligent and watch out for the presence of criminals and crime activities. You must be proactive by reporting to the police,” he said.

report to the police,” he added.

Ang thus assured that the identity of informers and informatio­n they give would not be revealed by the police, while reminding the villagers to give accurate informatio­n when lodging a report with the police.

At the same time, Ang reminded them not to take the law into their own hands when they apprehend any criminals in their areas but instead hand them over to the police.
