MPKS to solve traffic woes in Kota Samarahan
KUCHING: Kota Samarahan Municipal Council ( MPKS) is serious in addressing the traffic congestion faced by road users especially during peak hours.
Council chairman Dato Peter Minos said he would be meeting Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof to discuss matters pertaining to the problem.
“I admit that the traffic congestion within the Kota Samarahan area has worsened due to the rapid development taking place hence the increase of population here.
“Such problem is faced by those residing in Kota Samarahan – even I as MPKS chairman have to endure the traffic on a daily basis.

look into solutions that could be implemented towards overcoming this problem with the help from the Works Ministry,” he said during a farewell dinner for the municipal secretary at Grand Dormani Rajah Court Hotel here on Saturday.
He added that besides traffic congestion, MPKS would enhance its current services to the people of Kota Samarahan.
“As Kota Samarahan status has been upgraded to a municipality, the expectation by the public on the level of quality in our service delivery would also increase.”
Minos also reminded MPKS personnel to improve the quality of their work in meeting public expectations and also being on par with MPKS status as a municipal council.
The event was held as an appreciation for outgoing MPKS secretary Simon Wong Hong Yong, who would be transferred to Bau District Council after having served in Kota Samarahan for eight years.
Simon will be replaced by Abu Bakar Sepawi, an experienced architect who has been serving under Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) for more than 20 years.
