Seven relief centres still open in Kelantan

KOTA BHARU: The number of flood victims in Kelantan declined to 1,932 at 5pm compared with 4,196 victims at noon yesterday, with seven evacuation centres still operating in two districts.

According to the Social Welfare Department in ‘ Infobanjir’, the Tumpat district recorded the highest number of victims at 1,811 from 546 families staying at four relief centres, while Pasir Mas had 121 victims from 52 families staying at three relief centres.

The state government said in its website, http://ebanjir.kelantan. gov.my the water level at Sungai Golok in Rantau Panjang was now below the danger level of 9m with the trend declining at 8.65m compared with 8.77m at noon. The water level in Sungai Kelantan at Jambatan Guillemard, Tanah Merah dropped to 12.40m compared with 12.48 metres at yesterday but was below the danger level of 16 metres, while water levels in the other main rivers had returned to normal.

Meanwhile in Kuala Terengganu, the State Welfare Department said the situation in the state was improving with the number of victims dropping significan­tly to 318 from 82 families at 6 pm compared with 1,449 victims from 331 families at noon .

It said via the Infobanjir applicatio­n that only 240 victims (62 families) were staying at three relief centres in Kuala Terengganu compared with 1,352 victims (305 families) at yesterday.

The three relief centres were Sekolah Kebangsaan Gemuruh (126 victims from 38 families), Pulau Redang Mosque (67 victims from 13 families) and SK Bukit Guntong (47 victims from 11 families).

The number of victims in Dungun was unchanged at 78 people (20 families) placed at the Sekolah Kebangsaan Durian Mentangau.— Bernama
