275,663 outstanding summonses against foreign citizens recorded from 2010-2016
JOHOR BAHRU: A total of 275,663 outstanding summonses and 5,358 outstanding arrest warrants against foreign citizens were recorded between 2010 and last year.
Of this, Singaporeans recorded the highest number of outstanding summonses at 184,014, followed by Bruneians (63,696), Thais (22,334), Indonesians ( 2,880) and others (2,739).
Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department director Datuk Mahamad Akhir Darus said Thais recorded the highest in outstanding arrest warrants at 1,116, followed by Singaporeans ( 3,423), Bruneians ( 509), others (274) and Indonesians (36).
He was speaking to reporters after an operation codenamed OSTWA V here yesterday.
On OSTWA V, Mahamad Akhir said the operation which began on Friday and ended yesterday, was conducted at the Gelang Patah Rest and Service ( R& R) area of the Malaysia- Singapore Second Link, Pandan R& R area of the Eastern Dispersal Link ( EDL) Expressway and KM2 Jalan Tebrau here.
He said as of midnight, 5,710 vehicles were inspected and 55 summonses issued against foreign-registered vehicles.
“During the OSTWA V, a total of 3,275 summonses were settled and five individuals namely, a Singaporean, three Indonesians, including a woman, as well as a local man were detained.”
According to Mahamad Akhir, the 57-year- old Singaporean man who drove a vehicle bearing Malaysian registration number was nabbed on Saturday at KM2 Jalan Tebrau for having the three Indonesian nationals without valid travel documents.
The 45-year- old local man who was driving a vehicle bearing Singaporean registration number was detained on Friday, for uttering harsh words and obstructing traffic policemen from discharging their duty. — Bernama
