SHAH ALAM: Management& Science University ( MSU) hosted a 3- day convention on disaster management on its campus, gathering some 700 participants consisting of students and their leaders from 17 higher learning institutions from all over the country.

Aptly themed “SRC Convention 2016 – Disaster Management 2.0: Developing Social Entrepreneur”, organised by the Students Representative Council (SRC) and in collaboration with the Students and Career Development of MSU, the convention highlighted the importance of applying social entrepreneurship in carrying out the post- disaster relief effort.

Throughout the 3- day convention, participants went through three phases of discourse, featuring presentations by experts from the relevant fields, brainstorming based on the actual scenario and resolutions of disaster relief initiatives.

The closing of the event was graced by Datuk Dr. Mary Yap Kain Ching, deputy minister of Higher Education, who was joined by Tan Sri Dato’ Wira Dr. Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid, MSU president.

The disaster management initiative is part of the community development programme undertaken by MSU through # MSUcares, which focuses on community service; and MSU Community Engagement & Entrepreneurship Project ( M- CEeP), which emphasises community economic development.

MSU reached out to the community in the face of disasters both locally and internationally. At home, the MSU relief team saw action in Kuala Krai, Kelantan for flood relief effort, Kuala Kedah to care for the tsunami victims and Kota Tinggi, Johor for another flood relief effort.

Beyond Malaysia, MSU warmed the hearts of the earthquake victims through Pandanglah Padang 1 & 2 in Sumatera, Indonesia, and flood victims in Pakistan and India.
