Dog dies after being dragged 10 km by lorry

LIMBANG: A dog died of exhaustion and injuries after it was unknowingl­y dragged 10 kilometres by its owner when its leash got entangled with the rear of his lorry recently.

The owner was unaware that the long leash of one of his four pet dogs got pulled by the vehicle while he was making a turn at his house.

The incident was recorded by a road user who was shocked to see a dog dragged by a lorry by its black leash.

The recording that went viral enraged netizens in and outside the country.

A police report was lodged by a man in Kuching at about 10pm on Friday.

Limbang OCPD Supt Mohd Bukhori Saffai yesterday said investigat­ion was subsequent­ly carried out.

The lorry driver has been tracked to a 59- year- old man from Kampung Sayung, who surrendere­d himself and his vehicle to Limbang Police to facilitate investigat­ions.

“Our investigat­ions revealed t hat t he lorry d river was unaware that one of his four pet dogs was entangled to the back of his lorry,” he said.

The owner said he wa s shocked to learn of the incident a f t e r b eing in formed by members of the public at a traffic light intersecti­on at Jalan Bangkita.

He said he immediatel­y looked for an open space to park his lorry and was shocked to see his pet dog injured and near death. The dog later died.

According to the owner, the particular dog loved to sleep under the lorry when it is parked.

Supt Bokhori said the case is being investigat­ed under Section 3 of the Cruelty to Animals Ordinance 1963.
