Longhouse chiefs want Nyalau to remain their MP

-

LUBOK ANTU: Longhouse chiefs from Batu Kaya zone of the Lubok Antu parliamentary area have declared their support for their member of parliament Datuk William Nyalau Badak.

During an event held at Tinting Lalang longhouse on Sunday, 18 longhouse chiefs came together and announced their support for their MP and wanted Nyalau to be re- nominated as Barisan Nasional ( BN) candidate in the next general election.

Speaking to The Borneo Post yesterday, three of the longhouse chiefs Abel Lawang, Milai Balai and Nanang Unah commented that Nyalau was still able to serve as their elected representative.

“We don’t want outsiders to be our elected representative. We have our own preferred choice

as elected representative here and that person is Nyalau,” added Abel .

“Those who are not from Lubok Antu parliamentary area can dream on if they want to become an elected representative in Lubok Antu. We have our own people here, why should we vote for one who is not from this area?” Milai added.

Nanang on the other hand opined that Nyalau should be given at least another term in order for him to groom and recommend a successor.

Thus the 18 longhouse chiefs urged Parti Rakyat Sarawak ( PRS) to renominate Nyalau as the party’s candidate in the Lubok Antu parliamentary seat in the next general election.

Nyalau who was also contacted by The Borneo Post yesterday commented that he would like to be given another term as Lubok Antu MP if the people of Lubok Antu wanted him.

“I am willing to serve as long as the people want me. As much as I love to become Lubok Antu MP, it is up to the people of Lubok Anto to choose whosoever as their elected representative,” he said.

He first won the Lubok Antu parliamentary seat in 2008 and retained the seat in 2013.
