Great grandma wins Senior Citizen Cheongsam Competition
MIRI: A 75-year- old great grandmother beat 14 other contestants to win the Senior Citizen Cheongsam Competition held last Sunday as part of the 13th Miri Trade Fair ( Mitraf 13) at Permaisuri Imperial Mall.
Tiong Hung — the oldest participant — won RM300 cash, a trophy, crown and bouquet.
Tiong, who is a housewife with 14 grandchildren and four great grandchildren, also won the subsidiary title of the Most Veteran participant.
Second-place winner was Sia Siew Kaing, 58, a babysitter who also won the subsidiary title of Most Popular contestant with 456 votes.
She received RM200 cash, a bouquet and sash, while thirdplaced winner, housewife Teo Sook Kheng, 51, received RM100 cash, a bouquet and sash.
Prizes were jointly presented by Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting and acting branch manager of See Hua Marketing Sdn Bhd in Miri, Nicky Chua.
Also present were co-organising chairpersons Philip Leong, Lina Wong and Sheryl Ung, as well as Mitraf 13 main coordinator Tony Ling.
Mitraf 13 which was held on Jan 5– 8 was organised by See Hua Marketing Sdn Bhd in collaboration with The Borneo Post and Utusan Borneo, in support of efforts to make Miri City a vibrant city.
The cheongsam competition aimed to promote the appreciation of Chinese culture and tradition, while the trade exhibitions and expos served as an important platform to promote products, food, services and others that could lure tourists to Miri.
With the approach of the Chinese New Year, Mitraf was billed a ‘one- stop- centre’ for consumers to find various items they need in preparation for the celebration.
More than 70 traders took part in Mitraf 13, which not only saw participation of companies from throughout Sarawak, but also from Peninsular Malaysia.
