Corporate bodies urged to channel funds for heart patients

-

SHAH ALAM: The National Heart Institute Foundation ( Yayasan IJN) wants more corporate bodies to come forward to contribute funds to pay for the cost of treatment and surgery for the lower-income heart patients at IJN.

Yayasan IJN chairman Datin Julini Mohd Ali said this was because the foundation needed to ensure that there was sufficient fund to assist the lower-income heart patients in seeking immediate treatment.

“There are patients suffering from chronic diseases comprising the various age groups seeking treatment at the IJN. This group does not have adequate source of funds ... that is why we need a very large fund because the cost of treatment and surgery for heart patients is substantial,” she said.

She disclosed this to Bernama after receiving contributions for the Yayasan IJN amounting to RM100,000 from egg producer, QL Resources Bhd (QL), through the ‘Good Heart Campaign’, here yesterday.

Also present was QL Resources executive director Chia Seong Pow. Julini said at least RM4 million was needed each year to pay for the cost of treatment and surgery for chronic heart patients.

“As of last November, a total of RM3.6 million was allocated to pay for the cost of treatment and surgery for about 146 heart patients. If more people help and contribute, then more heart patients can be saved,” she said.

Meanwhile, Chia said he was happy to collaborate with and assist Yayasan IJN through the community project.

“This is among the corporate social responsibility to the community. We have been collaborating with the foundation since 2014 and support this noble efforts,” he said. — Bernama
