No change in state cabinet line-up

KUCHING: The line- up of the state cabinet unveiled by Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg yesterday is unchanged from the previous one under Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem.

However, a new ministry – Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning - was set up to be headed by Abang Johari, who also heads the Ministry of Resource Planning and Environmen­t. Abang Johari still heads the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, and Ministry of Housing and Urbanisati­on.

The swearing- in of the state cabinet and assistant ministers was held at the State Legislativ­e Assembly ( DUN) in a ceremony witnessed by Yang di- Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.

At a press conference when announcing the cabinet line-up after the swearing-in ceremony, Abang Johari said: “Basically, there is no change for the time being”.

Asked why another deputy chief minister was not appointed, Abang Johari replied: “What happens is I will concentrat­e on pursuing what has been done by the late Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem and will reshuffle the cabinet when the time comes.”

“I’ll let you know when I have a revelation…give me time,” he added when asked whether there is any time frame for the reshuffle.

To a question whether it was a burden for him to hold four portfolios, Abang Johari pointed out that he has capable assistant ministers to carry out the duties.
