MIRI: Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau has proposed that the Long Lama Bridge which is still under construction should be named after Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem .

Dennis highlighted that Adenan not only approved the RM137 million project but also launched it.

“Once completed, the bridge will have a huge impact on the population, especially the people of Telang Usan as what Tok Nan has done for Sarawakians during his short tenure as our CM,” said Dennis. In this context, Dennis hoped state leaders and Sarawakians will support and agree to the proposal to name the bridge after Adenan.

“We want his legacy to be remembered as long as the bridge stands. I would like to urge our newly appointed chief

minister and federal leaders to look at the need to boost local tourism and connect the bridge ( Long Lama) to sub- district Long Bedian (Apoh) and to Long Iman, Ulu Sungai Tutoh.”

Dennis said the dream of having a bridge crossing the mighty Baram River at Long Lama to enable travel round the clock between Long Lama and the upper region with the rest of the state only became a reality when Adenan became chief minister.

“His leadership style of listening to elected representatives or the people’s request was the huge difference in his leadership style when compared to others,” he added.

Meanwhile, Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu ( PBB) Telang Usan Youth chief Dominic Nyurang voiced his approval to the proposal to name the bridge after Adenan.

“The bridge was approved during his tenure under the rural development transformation programme. This bridge also will be a new landmark for Telang Usan and will benefit the people. It is the best way to remember Tok Nan’s legacy and his wish and aspiration for the rural community,” he added.
