Two nabbed for alleged fraudulent sale of land
MIRI: A longhouse chief from Sibu is among two individuals arrested by Miri and Bintulu police during a raid of a budget hotel in Taman Sri Dagang, Bintulu Tuesday morning for suspected involvement in fraudulent sale of land.
The suspect, 60, and his female friend, 41, from Nanga Lipus, Kanowit were rounded up from a budget hotel at 11.30am following information received earlier on their whereabouts.
Police chief here, ACP Khoo Leng Huat, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Wednesday.
Both suspects are being detained under police custody at the central police station here for questioning.
According to Khoo, the duo dubbed as ‘ Group Kaya’, were believed to be also actively involved in lottery fraud.
During the raid, which was led by Inspector Jagadhesan Arumugam, among items seized were cash amounting to RM18,150, jewellery worth RM20,000, five handphones, 10 pieces of cheques from various banks, 15 copies documents of land title and maps, a shaman (bomoh) attire, amulets, a branded wristwatch, a car and the woman’s (suspect) MyKad.
According to Khoo, a few of the confiscated cheques had been signed.
Khoo, however, did not reveal the number of victims involved in the fraudulent activities as investigations were underway.
The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property which provides for a jail term of up to seven years and also liable to a fine.
