Parents seek clarification after ustazah forced their children to undress

-

MIRI: Angry parents turned up in a school in Miri yesterday morning to demand why a religious teacher forced six pupils to strip off for being noisy during KAFA class on Jan 17.

Parent Rodziah Borhan who came along with her siblings and two other parents arrived at the school at 7am to meet the headmaster and relate the punishment of their children.

“My 9-year- old boy told me the religious teacher forced him together with other boys and girls to undress because they were noisy in class,” Rodziah claimed when met at the school yesterday.

According to her, the incident came to light yesterday (Jan 18) after one of the victims told his grandmother the teacher had forced them to undress. The news went viral in the WhatsApp group on the action taken by the ustazah.

She disclosed that her 9-year-old son was one of the pupils forced to remove his shorts, during which the teacher closed the door and windows.

The angry mother told The Borneo Post reporter that there was no regulation from any ministry or religious body permitting a teacher to undress their pupils even if they were naughty.

“This is wrong and we want answers from the authority concerned to verify the happening, and for the ustazah to be transferred away,” she said.

Welfare, Women and Community Wellbeing Minister Datuk Fatimah Abdullah when contacted on the issue said the school would investigate.

She said the school authority would call the relevant parties involved, the KAFA teacher, the pupils and their parents to get the whole picture.

According to Rosita Borhan who is a relative of one of the victims, she was informed of the incident by her sister.

Another parent also lodged a police report against the religious teacher for allegedly stripping the pupils during KAFA lesson.

At about 9.30am yesterday, the religious teacher was called up by the school authority to meet the headmaster to verify the incident and also for an interview with the pupils and their parents.

The headmaster said a report would be submitted to JAIS on the issue as it is not under the Ministry of Education. The religious teacher is from JAIS.

In the afternoon incident, six pupils were allegedly forced by the religious teacher to undress because they had been noisy in class from 2pm to 4pm on Jan 17.
