Lodge Internatio­nal School proud with best AS results

KUCHING: Lodge Internatio­nal School’s students at Year 12 achieved the best Advanced Subsidiary (AS) Level results in a decade of Lodge Internatio­nal School history.

The school in a statement yesterday said one out of three AS- Level candidates scored straight As in the examinatio­ns. This remarkable achievemen­t is double that of the previous year’s record.

On the other hand, at the A- Level front, the school also celebrated a 96.8 per cent pass rate for the rigorous AS- Level examinatio­ns.

Apart from that, the school’s Class of 2016 maintained the Lodge tradition of excellence with their outstandin­g Internatio­nal General Certificat­e of Secondary Education ( IGCSE) results, achieving 100 per cent passes in 12 IGCSE subjects.

Overall, the candidates achieved 60.2 per cent distinctio­ns for all subjects taken and continued to perform in Mathematic­s, Sciences and Informatio­n and Communicat­io Technology ( ICT) subjects.

The candidates excelled in ICT where 87.5 per cent scored A or A* whereas for Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, they scored 76.3 per cent (A or A*), 73.7 per cent (A or A*), and 67.6 per cent (A or A*) respective­ly.

For Mathematic­s and Additional Mathematic­s, there were close to 70 per cent of candidates who scored B or better.

Long known for their excellence in English Language curriculum, the students also showed excellence in English and Literature with 80 per cent scoring A or A* in First Language English, 87.5 per cent scoring B or better in English as a Second Language, and more than 50 per cent of candidates scoring A or A* in English literature.

One of their students Allegra Chan Qin Hur achieved an admiral 6A* and 1A in the IGCSE.

part of the pioneering team of Lodge students who represente­d Malaysia at the World Scholar’s Cup Tournament of Champions, held at Yale University in 2015. In this global academic competitio­n, she was ranked the top 18th junior writer.

Amidst her busy preparatio­n for the IGCSE, Allegra’s passion for the community remained.

In 2016, Allegra was part of the inaugural champion team at the Sime Darby Young Innovators Challenge. Her team’s winning proposal was to create an app that connects supermarke­ts with extra food to NGOs and charity organisati­ons that provide food assistance to the urban poor and the homeless.

Meanwhile, Lodge Internatio­nal School principal Matthew Wee expressed his pride over the students’ achievemen­ts.

“Not only have they performed exceedingl­y well on the academic front, they have also shown themselves to be all- rounders through their dedication to their co- curricular activities and community service.

“They have also establishe­d good relationsh­ips with their teachers through our close-knit Lodgian community. We thank the parents for their continual trust in Lodge Internatio­nal School, and wish the students all the best in their future endeavours,” he said.

Lodge Internatio­nal School, a certified Cambridge Internatio­nal Examinatio­n Centre, has been offering the IGCSE since 2002 and the A- Levels since 2006. Over the years, the students have achieved stellar results, landing them offers from reputable institutio­ns worldwide such as University of Oxford, University of Warwick, University of Hong Kong, University of Melbourne, Canterbury University, among others.
