STAM 2016: 1.3 per cent rise in students getting ‘Mumtaz’ grade in 10 subjects

PUTRAJAYA: The number of candidates obtaining the Mumtaz ( Excellent) grade in the 2016 Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia ( STAM) examinatio­n rose by 1.3 per cent to 537 candidates compared with 444 candidates in 2015, according to the Education Ministry.

The ministry said in a statement on the STAM achievemen­t analysis day that the number of candidates obtaining the Mumtaz grade for all 10 subjects rose by 0.35 per cent or 80 candidates in 2016 compared with 54 candidates in 2015.

A total of 8,784 candidates registered for the STAM examinatio­n in 2016 compared with 8,982 candidates in 2015, a decline of 182 candidates.

“The number of candidates who succeeded in obtaining the STAM certificat­e in 2016 rose by 75 candidates to 4,286 compared with 4,211 candidates in 2015,” said the Education Ministry.

Overall, the achievemen­t by candidates in the 2016 STAM improved by 0.02 National Average Grade to 3.06 points in 2016 compared with 3.08 points in 2015. The index used to show the achievemen­t of candidates was the National Average Grade ( GPN) where a smaller figure shows a better achievemen­t.

The 2016 STAM examinatio­n result analysis issued by the Education Ministry showed that the group of students obtaining the Jayyid (Good) grade certificat­e improved by 0.3 per cent to 2,004 compared with 1,929 candidates in 2015.

Those obtaining the Jayyid Jiddan ( Very Good) and Maqbul ( Pass) results showed a drop of 1.6 per cent and 0.7 per cent respective­ly compared with the year 2015.

The Education Ministry said that in 2016, the number of candidates who did not qualify for the STAM certificat­e rose by 0.8 per cent to 2,108 compared with 2,002 candidates in 2015. — Bernama
