Call on MCC to upgrade facilities at recreational parks in Miri

-

MIRI: The Miri City Council (MCC) should step up its efforts to repair and upgrade facilities at recreational parks across the city.

A member of the public, who called thesundaypost, lamented about the broken facilities she saw at Taman Awam Miri (Miri Public Park).

“Recreational parks represent the image of a city. The public park is quite a popular spot among tourists visiting Miri city – that is why we, the locals, feel ashamed in seeing the broken facilities there.

“We have noticed that despite numerous reports, there hasn’t been much done by the local council to make the place better. We hope that the city council could take note of this matter,” she said, requesting anonymity.

A ground check by thesundaypost reveals a dirty playground where the facilities are run-down due to severe lack of maintenance and also vandalism.

There is even a concrete platform that lies on a ground terrace that is exhibiting extreme soil erosion – a grave cause for public concern.

The Miri Public Park, located about 3km from the city centre, was built on top of a hill.

During its heyday, it was a popular recreational spot with a host of facilities including a children’s playground, jogging tracks, an observatory platform and spine-tingling hanging bridges connecting the valleys.
