Bomba to promote awareness of fire safety among students, teachers
SARIKEI: The local Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) strives to conduct safety programmes for schools at least once a year.
The district Bomba chief Suna Kaha said the activity could help raise awareness of the appropriate steps and procedures to be undertaken by students and teachers in the event of emergency.
“Through this programme, the students and teachers can learn how to respond to fire alarms and ensure a smooth evacuation process including identifying the right place for assembly,” he said during a fire safety programme at SMK Tinggi Sarikei on Friday, held in collaboration between the school and the district Bomba.
His text of speech was read by Sarikei station officer II, Haron Jenai.
The programme kicked off with a fire drill to test the efficiency of students and teachers in responding to a fire alarm, followed by a fire safety talk and a demonstration on the right usage of a fire extinguisher.
Later, SMK Tinggi Sarikei principal Ting Sing Teck expressed his thanks to the district Bomba for conducting the programme, which he believed should be held annually for the school.
“We enrol new students every year, as well as receive new batch of teachers to replace those who are on transfer or retiring. Thus, it would be good for us to have this activity every year,” he said.
