‘Support, cooperation from all parties vital to produce quality human capital’
SRI AMAN: School plays a vital role in realising the country’s aspiration apart from being an educational institution that contributes to the nation’s development agenda as in producing quality human capital.
Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Masir Kujat said this could only be done with the support and cooperation of all parties, particularly teachers, ParentTeacher Association (PTA) and the community.
According to him, there are endless possibilities as today’s Information and Communications Technology (ICT) had created a borderless world.
“As such, to continuously benefit from this challenging global environment, the younger generations are to be equipped with knowledge, innovative skills and integrity to overcome challenges,” he said at the closing ceremony for the Transition Programme and Caring Teacher for Year 1 pupils of SK Kem Pakit, near here yesterday.
He said the main agenda for schools was to hone students’ abilities such as the ability to communicate in English and various skills for development.
Apart from knowledge, discipline and moral values were needed for holistic and integrated human capital development that enable the student’s potential to be developed fully.
“We do not wish to produce bookworms who only excel in academics instead we want to develop a balanced (physically, emotionally, spiritually and intellectually) generation that is self-disciplined, competent, patriotic and not individualistic.
“This is inline with two of the six strategic thrusts of the Education Development Master Plan (PIPP) for developing and building human capital. PIPP is the best platform to catalyse the government’s vision to achieve developed nation status by 2020,” he said.
“Cooperation between the school and PTA would improve academic and extra-curricular achievements as well as enhance the learning environment to benefit students.”
Sri Aman District Officer Ismawie Salleh was also present.
