Sports Toto launches its annual million-dollar angpow drive
KUCHING: Sports Toto started its annual Chinese New Year Ang Pow Donation Campaign here yesterday to spread happiness and cheer to seniors in the community during this festive season.
This year marks the 29th year of the charitable drive that reaches out to needy, senior citizens in 50 cities and towns across Malaysia.
The first leg of the Ang Pow drive in Kuching took place at Che Hia Khor Moral Uplifting Society at Jalan Ellis yesterday, where a total of 400 senior citizens received ang pow and goodie bags.
Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Datuk James Chan, who officiated at the event, commended Sports Toto for its charity work that has benefitted many needy people.
Sports Toto hopes the gesture of giving will lighten the economic burden of the needy during this festive season and bring luck to all in the Year of the Rooster.
Being the biggest annual charity event of Sports Toto, preparation for this year’s campaign costing approximately RM1.2 million started five months ago.
More importantly, Sports Toto hoped the initiative will instil positive values of respect and care for the elders of the community.
Since the inception of the donation campaign in 1989, Sports Toto has spent more than RM18 million benefitting over 330,000 senior citizens nationwide.
The campaign will proceed to Serian and Sri Aman today (Sunday).
