White Cat looks purr-fect for unifying Kuching — Sim

-

KUCHING: The Padungan White Cat statue symbolises the unity of the people in Kuching, be it at a time of great sadness or celebration, said Local Government Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian.

“It is very meaningful every year during any occasion that the White Cat is dressed up for the occasion.

“It also represents the racial and religious harmony of the people. I am very grateful to the Kuching City South Council (MBKS) mayor and the sponsor of the costume for the cat in stepping forward to represent the people of Kuching,” he said after he formalised the White Cat’s Chinese New Year dress-up yesterday.

Meanwhile, this year’s sponsor for the Chinese New Year costume is Lot 10 Boutique Hotel. Its new owner KK Wong said he felt very proud to be part of the yearly event.

“I am proud to have the chance to come to Kuching, as I am originally from Sibu, and join the Kuching community in the Chinese New Year celebration.

“We are proud to have Datuk Dr Sim as a leader, not only for Kuching, but for the whole of Sarawak.

“Also under the new Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg, we are even more confident about tourism. The boutique hotel (initiative) is a response to his call to promote tourism in Kuching.

“We wish peace and good fortune not only for the Chinese but all the races,” he said.

Also present were MBKS Mayor Dato James Chan Khay Syn and other community leaders.
