Agro-business seminar for Orang Ulu community this March 18-19

MIRI: A group of Orang Ulu profession­als is organising a seminar on agricultur­e-based businesses, scheduled to run from this March 18 to 19 at the Maranatha Hall in Merdeka Mall here.

Spokespers­on Francis Nyurang said the seminar on ‘Economic Empowermen­t Agri-Business’ was an idea mooted by these profession­als led by a prominent Orang Ulu businessma­n Dr Francis Jana – all of whom very keen in helping and assisting their fellow members of the community in undertakin­g short-term cash crop ventures such as ginger, pineapple and pepper planting.

“The two-day seminar will also involve speakers from various government department­s such as the Pineapple Industry Board and Agricultur­e Department,” Francis Nyurang said.

The organisers have targeted a turnout of participan­ts between 200 and 250 people.

“This is the first time that we organise such seminar; therefore space is limited. The hall can only accommodat­e up to 250 people,” said Francis Nyurang.

The seminar is open to all members of the Orang Ulu community.

“However, only those who are serious in venturing into short-term crop cultivatio­ns are encouraged to attend,” said Francis Nyurang.

Entry fee is RM100 per person and closing date for registrati­on is Feb 17.
