School alumni association to publish book as tribute to the late Adenan
KUCHING: The Green Road Secondary School Alumni Association ( Persatuan Alumni SMK Green Road) is set to publish a book featuring tributes to the late chief minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem.
The book chronicles the life and legacies of the much beloved chief minister and is scheduled to be launched this April.
“The book project is meant to commemorate and put on record the tributes and legacies of our much beloved Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem. The content of the book will also include interviews of close associates and chronicles the life of our former chief minister. We are confident that the book will become a valuable resource especially on the topic of leadership for our current and future generations,” said SMK Green Road Alumni Association chairperson Dr Haseanti Hussein in a press statement.
Dr Haseanti also informed that she had already met with Datin Patinggi Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu, wife of the late Adenan, to seek her consent and views on the book together with the alumni’s patron Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, who is Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department.
“We have personally briefed her (Jamilah) on the book and she had given her blessing as well as invaluable advice on the direction to take to formalise the said project. We are very grateful indeed that she has given her blessings and consent for us to proceed with the publication of the book and to proceed with the project,” added Dr Haesanti.
On another note, Nancy revealed that the book would have five chapters – The Biography, The Tributes, The Legacies, The Quotes and Excerpts of Speeches of the late chief minister.
“We definitely need records of all the great Sarawak episodes irrespective whether they are economic, social or political in nature. A book is one of the best ways to store those experiences. This book is dedicated to the sons and daughters of Sarawak who have passionately loved the late Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem,” added Nancy.
She also informed that Datuk Seri Azman Ujang, the chairman of Bernama, would pen the foreword and would also contribute an article on the leadership style of the late Adenan.
“The book will also include exclusive interviews of close friends and associates of the late Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem. The publication of this book is both timely and significant. In the wider context, this is more than just a tribute to a great man – this book qualifies as part of the social and historical record of Sarawak. This is also a legacy of Sarawak, a source of pride and inspiration for our youths and future generations,” Nancy added.
The book, she further said, would record in posterity one of the greatest achievements in the political arena and also the fighting spirit of Sarawakians in the face of adversity.
“We are confident indeed that in future this book is used as reference by students of social studies, leadership, management and history,” continued Nancy.
Meanwhile, Dr Haseanti informed that the publication of the book is also a fundraising initiative of the alumni, whereby proceeds from this project will be used for the association’s various programmes such as upkeep of the school, mentoring, networking and other education-related activities.
“Anyone who wishes to include their tribute for inclusion in the book either as a full page, half page, or quarter page tribute may do so. Tributes should include photograph of the contributor, along with name and the text. We are very excited indeed about the prospect of honouring the late Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem, who has positively impacted all of us and about raising funds to support our continued efforts to raise the standards of school facilities and students and development. The pictorial tribute book will include memories that will last a lifetime,” said Dr Haseanti.

So we should be grateful if contributors could provide photographs of themselves with the late Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem,” added Dr Haseanti.
She urged alumni of SMK Green Road to register as members of the SMK Green Road Alumni Association.
