RM5 bln fund for green tech scheme
PUTRAJAYA: The Green Technology Financing Scheme will be continued over a period of five years from 2018 till 2022 with a RM5 billion allocation.
Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili said the scheme was approved at the Green Technology and Climate Change Council (MTHPI) meeting yesterday.
The MTHPI meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak at Bangunan Perdana Putra here.
Ongkili said GTFS, introduced in 2010 on a RM3.5 billion fund, was set to expire in December but would be enhanced and known as GTFS 2.0.
“GTFS 2.0 is crucial to ensure that potential and competitive green technology-based projects continue to get financing support and contribute to the country’s green technology industry’s development and growth,” he said.
He told reporters this, after the meeting.
He said the scheme had produced many local entrepreneurs in green technology involving RM2.96 billion for 272 projects.
Ongkili said the MTHPI also agreed to implement the MySuria programme, which the prime minister announced while presenting Budget 2017, involving 1,620 households in B40 group nationwide, beginning this month.
He said under the programme managed by the Sustainable Energy Development Authority, each family involved would earn a passive income of at least RM250 monthly.
The first process, he said, was to identify eligible participants and a suitable place for implementation.
Ongkili said MySuria had been allocated RM45 million; MTHPI also agreed to review the allocation after studying the impact of the programme.
Aside from that, MTHPI also approved the setting up of an Energy Performance Contracting fund which will serve as a catalyst for Energy Service Companies (ESCO).
The fund comprises RM200 million from Malaysia Debt Ventures Berhad ( MDV) with credit guarantee fund support of RM12 million from the ministry and United Nations Development Programme- Global Environment Facility ( UNDP- GEF). — Bernama
