KUCHING: Sarawak youths are urged to unleash their potentials and succeed in their chosen careers if they are to become future leaders.

Youth, Sports and Solidarity minister Dato Sri Michael Manyin assured that the ministry would work closely and together with young people in helping them unleash their potentials.

“We are doing our best to provide activities, programmes and avenues as well as enhancing our interaction to harness the potential of young Sarawakians,” he said.

“We want to foster and nurture all the qualities including leadership in young people so that Sarawak will have all the talents and quality human capital to continue steering this state to a brighter future,” he added.

Manyin highlighted this at the launching of TEDxYouth@ Kenyalang #msg2youth Community Wall held at Plaza Merdeka here.

Messages collected from the inaugural TEDxYouth@ Kenyalang event last year will be displayed at the wall to create impact on youths to find motivation and inspiration to be productive and dynamic in facing the challenges ahead.

“Who are we?” Manyin asked in which the attendees replied: “We are youths of today.”

“Who are we?” he asked again in which they replied: “We are leaders and future of tomorrow.”

Reiterating the ministry’s full support, Manyin urged the youths to not only remember this pledge but to act on their words and work hard in realising their dreams.

“In this borderless era, experience is very important as you can’t just stay in a coconut shell. So be proactive and it is time that you become the ambassadors of Sarawak,” he added.

Meanwhile, TEDxYouth@ Kenyalang curator Ahmad Zaiwin Kassim hoped that the wall could convey the messages of motivation, inspiration and hope to all young people.

“The TEDxYouth@Kenyalang held last year in November was very successful. The event has even caught the attention of the corporate sector and we have received numerous calls from people in our neighbouring region like Indonesia and the Philippines,” he said.

“As such, we hope this event can continue to be organised and maybe we can invite youths from Indonesia and the Philippines to come and join us,” he added.

TEDxYouth@Kenyalang was brought to Sarawak by Koperasi Belia Inovatif Sarawak (Kobis) in collaboration with Youth, Sports and Solidarity Ministry and in line with the State-Level Youth Day 2016 celebration and World TEDxYouth Weekend.

The objective of the event is to empower and inspire Sarawak youths through TEDx culture to become more creative, innovative and dynamic while building a clearing house of free knowledge from the most inspired thinkers within the local community of curious souls, providing a dynamic platform for young people to meet and make a positive impact and difference in the community.

Permanent secretary to the Youth, Sports and Solidarity Ministry Kameri Affandi, 1MSarawak advisory council member Irwan Zulkarnain Hasbie and Plaza Merdeka general manager Cheah Kheng Mun were among those present.
