Umno uses polite approach when dealing with old friends – Annuar
ALOR SETAR: Umno has always taken a polite approach when dealing with ‘old friends’ who used to be in the same party, considering that political issue is not about personality per se.
Umno information chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa said the party, therefore, need not necessarily be apologetic in issues involving sentiments on personalities. Instead the party would be using a non-aggressive approach without slandering and demonising the opponents.
Using former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad as an example, Annuar said the public know his strengths and contributions when he was in the government for 22 years, but, he said, Tun Dr Mahathir ( Tun M) now is not the same person as before.
“Tun M who shared the stage with DAP is a different person. Tun M now is pro DAP. He could not control the DAP, but DAP has managed to change his stance,” he said this during Umno information tour yesterday.
Annuar who is also the member of Parliament for Ketereh said he practised open door in politics by allowing opposition leaders to enter his constituency to campaign.
“Three days ago I met Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, president of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia ( PPBM) in Parliament and he apologised to me for entering my constituency. And I said okay, no problem.
“Today ( yesterday) and tomorrow (today) I will be in Jerlun for the tour. We know Jerlun is Mukhriz’s (PPBM deputy president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir) constituency.
“I believe if they ( Mukhriz and Tun M) are still in Umno, they will also support Act 355 but now that they are pro DAP, they have to be sensitive towards DAP,” he said. — Bernama
