School upgrading an on-going commitment
MIRI: The efforts to improve and upgrade dilapidated schools in Sarawak are an ongoing and continuous commitment of the federal government, assured Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa yesterday.
“Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) of the Prime Minister’s Department, Ministry of Education (MOE) as well as Public Works Department (JKR) are currently in the process to repair and improve the poor infrastructures faced by dilapidated schools in the state,” he said to the media after a visit to inspect the school repairing project at SK Kampung Luak Miri.
Ali expressed his satisfaction on the completion of the school hall project that cost around RM120,000 and minor repairing works for the school implemented by the ICU.
Regarding the staff quarters of the school which have not been occupied due to its old and dilapidated condition, he said he would find ways to build new staff quarters for the school.
Earlier, the Chief Secretary and his entourage visited the Miri Central Police Station and the Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) Miri where he received positive feedback from members of the public on the excellent services provided by the various government departments and agencies at the centre.
Meanwhile, the ICU’s director general Datuk Seri Ahmad Zaki Ansore Mohd Yusof said they were working out the details for the other school repairing projects in the state adding that the projects would be implemented as soon as possible.
