Hundreds soak up open day at Tenby Schools

-

MIRI: Hundreds of people in and around the city yesterday attended the Tenby Schools open day which showcased its activities to a wider audience in the community.

Its principal Jeanne Denyer said traditionally, the open day held from 10am to 1pm was a Family Day and for the last two years it was primarily for the school’s community but last year they decided to open up for the public as well.

It was to enable the local community to see different aspects of the school in academic, co-curriculum and facilities available.

“Of course this year, we have the national school and for some of our parents from the national school, this will be their first event at the school and it gives them the opportunity to mix with other parents.

It is about how the community is connecting, to know each other and become a support network for each other,” said Denyer when met by thesundaypost.

She added that the open day was for the public to feel the relaxed environment of the school.

Besides, the annual event organised jointly with the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) and the school’s council is to develop leadership skills as students get involved in planning activities and managing them to raise money for charity for the local community.

Among the activities held were sales of food and drinks, handicraft, zumba performances and games stalls where visitors enjoyed a wide range of fun activities such as ‘bouncy castle,’ water-based activities, live music and rides.

Denyer was happy with the overwhelming response from parents and the community, adding that it augured well for building community confidence in the school.

Currently, enrolment for the Malaysian national school was very low with only 10 students in Standard 1, 2 and 3 while 270 students attend the international curriculum.

Tenby Schools Miri operates two schools at its campus – an International School that follows the International Primary Curriculum (IPC), the National Curriculum for England and the Cambridge IGCSE programme, as well as a Malaysian Private School following the Malaysian Curriculum.

Enrolment activities are ongoing, and interested parents are welcome to call 085 - 491 526 or email miri@tenby.edu.my
