PBDSB opposes Hudud, against tabling of RUU355 in Parliament

-

KUCHING: Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak Baru (PBDSB) is strongly against the implementation of Hudud law in the country, saying the law is against the spirit and intent of the Malaysian Agreement 1963 (MA63) and the Federal Constitution.

Party president Cobbold John said the secular founding principle must remain sacrosanct and unaltered, and no party or andividual shall be allowed to introduce any law, which will erode the founding principle.

“PBDSB is standing on the side of all the right and fair land of Sarawak that oppose the implementation of hudud in the country...our total membership and supporters are opposed to the tabling of RUU355.

“Our nation founding fathers had started the counrty on a secular foundation when they signed for Sarawak to be a partner in the formation of Malaysia under and by virtue of MA63.

“This secular founding principle must remain sacrosanct and unaltered and no party or individual shall be allowed to introduce any law which is contrary to, and or that which will erode the founding principle,” he said in a statement.

He stressed that any attempt at changing that secular founding principle would risk the country breaking apart, adding that ‘RUU355 is a legal form of Hudud’.

He added that RUU355, which was first moved by Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang and now after receiving the blessing of UMNO and other Barisan Nasional (BN) components, notably SPDP would be debated and might be voted into law by Parliament during the current session.

According to him, the trend is hugely alarming and views the proposed RUU355 as potentially a very bad law, stressing that the existing laws are more than adequate for the purpose of maintenance of law and order.

“When passed in Parliament and becomes law will signal the nation as an Islamic country and a totally differrent nation from the one founded by our forefathers under MA63...the various persuasions of ideas will push and pull to their different corners and may lead to disintegration of the counrty. “We oppose RUU355 in its present shape and form before Parliament, not withstanding whatever argument put in favour of it by the promoters,” he said, adding that the party would oppose those in favour of the law in the coming 14th general election.
