SATT College holds motivation camp for SK Apar pupils

-

BAU: SATT College Kuching organised a Mathematics, Science and English camp for SK Apar pupils at Pali Kupuo Resort, Kampung Apar in Singgai, Bau yesterday.

At the camp, SATT Diploma in Tourism students showed off their cooking skills on top of their weekend outreach activity of motivating SK Apar pupils to focus on core academic subjects.

Its chief executive officer (CEO) Fabian Henry said by bringing SATT students to a rural setting and encouraging them use local food and ingredients from the wild would hopefully enhance their tourism knowledge.

“This is definitely good for SATT’s students as they can develop their thinking skills and use local jungle ingredients for their dishes so as to be different from those found in towns,” he said.

“We want them think out of the box create new tourism products and new dishes from the abundant of natural food resources in our state and also the environment,” he added.

Fabian added that SATT students could enhance the facilities at the resort and make the place more comfortable for visitors so that it could become a tourism attraction.

“This is what we have in mind for our Diploma in Tourism students and also those involved in cooking and culinary arts,” he said, adding that Pali Kupuo Resort has natural attractions like rivers and jungle tracks for visitors to explore.

On the weekend camp, Fabian said the idea came from their event management and community service team which was very proactive in helping the local community.

“We want our students to work together and share their knowledge with the pupils they interact with,” he enthused.

Meanwhile, Bau District Education Department representative Scholastic Annabella said they welcome the camp as it could motivate pupils and even parents to focus on academic subjects like Mathematics, Science and English.

She said her department commended the college for choosing SK Apar, a top school in Bau District, and hoped more such community programmes be carried out in other schools here.
