Nothing To Lose – victory No. 3 beckons

- By Scoop

KUCHING: Nothing To Lose can go three up at the Mile 8 Penrissen course here this morning.

The 8-year-old turned certain defeat into spectacular victory, coming from a long way back after a bad start to pull off a stunning last-to-first victory for his second win in a row last meeting.

On that incredible showing, a third straight victory beckons as the in-form lanky galloper tackles a field of eight in Race 5 (Class 1 – 1000M).

With Othman Putit astride and a good marble (No. 5), Nothing To Lose should have a very strong say in the race.

Indeed, it will be interesting to see how he performs. On all counts, he should not disappoint.

Bukan Lawan Nya is the main danger. The seven-year-old was an out-of-sorts back marker most of last season but should find his form to reverse his lean spell.

The choice of champion jockey Roslan Bujang – a clear pointer to his chances – the roan galloper should go lengths better to give the field a run for the money.

Another one to watch is Sama Sama. The three-year-old has two easy wins in as many starts but punters who fancy the improving youngster, will have take a chance on apprentice Nurfitri Umar who will be on board. With his mount on the upgrade, the rookie rider will have ample opportunity to prove himself against the big boys.

Interestingly, the Class One event is dominated by Beraya Stable which races six out of the eight final acceptors, leaving Zorro and Kimanis to carry the colours of the two other stables – Sara and Lebok.

Queen Zoffany (Jasmi Kamar) can lead the pack of newcomers in Race Three (Class 3 – 1000M).

The four-year-old has shaped up nicely for a good debut today.

Dream Catcher II (Kamar Yaman) is the other newcomer to watch.

The four-year-old has shown up well in track work and should be prominent at the finish

The remaining two first-timers are Cherokee (Othman Putit) and Monolita (Roslan Bujang). Both are unknown quantities. Race Four (Class 2 – 1000M) should be tight with all the five runners in with a winning chance.

Storm Raider (Roslan Bujang), who finished third in his last start, is the likely favourite.

With a handy 56kg and Roslan Bujang taking up the reins, the six-year-old is the one to beat.

Geronimo bears watching as well. The six-year-old who finished second in his last start, can step up on that effort.

There again, punters will have bank on another neophyte – apprentice Amirzull Othman – to upstage the seniors.
