Mere rhetoric, Chong says of Abg Johari’s warning to BN reps
KUCHING: State DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen regards Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg’s warning to all state BN assemblypersons to perform or risk being replaced as a mere rhetoric.
“For all these 53 years, they should be performing. By the fact that they are nominated by the BN and elected all these years, they should be performing even without Abang Jo giving the statement, isn’t it?” Chong said at a press conference here yesterday.
Abang Johari had on Saturday warned all state BN assemblypersons not to fail the people since the state government has allocated RM5 million for Rural Transformation Projects ( RTP) to each state constituency.
The chief minister said if the projects were still not implemented, the assemblypersons would be replaced.
Chong, who is Bandar Kuching MP and Kota Sentosa assemblyman, also wanted to know the yardstick by which Abang Johari would assess the performance of each state BN assemblyperson.
“Is it to ensure there is no corruption in the system and to ensure that the country will not become a global kleptocracy? Is that the yardstick of measurement of their performance?”
Considering the fact that all the BN state assemblypersons were nominated by former chief minister the late Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem, he asked if it was an endorsement of their performance especially the ‘second termers’.
On Abang Johari’s statement that the national education needs reform, Chong asked the chief minister to start it at home.
“What happened is that there is a crisis in the making that we are importing 433 ( Islamic) religious teachers ( from Peninsular Malaysia) into Sarawak. ( So,) start with this issue first, don’t just talk and no action.
“You’re the government. All these are rhetoric. Put it into action and take immediate action to stop it.”
