KUCHING: The National Transformation 2050 ( TN50) agenda, which was announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak earlier this year, requires youths to start thinking ahead and taking charge.

In stating this, Local Government Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian said if youths take charge of the agenda, the right policies will be shaped for the future generations.

“If in 2050 we are still talking about road connections, we fail miserably. If schools are still falling out into the rivers, then we failed already. Those things should have been done already.

“By 2050, we should be talking about what the future holds at that point in time. We ( should be talking about) big things such as the service industry in a digital economy,” he said when receiving a courtesy visit from the organisers of Emart Baby Fair 2017 at his Wisma Bapa Malaysia office yesterday.

Dr Sim pointed out that in order for the state to be prepared for 2050, there is need to find out what is needed by having dialogues with youths.

“We need to find time to have dialogues with the youths. If the youths do not plan ahead now, those in position may not have the aspiration or know how (the youths) want to grow. Then the policies or direction may not be shaped in that way.

“That is why we need to know. That is why it is important to organise more dialogues with youths so that we know what to do (in preparation for TN50),” he said.

The Emart Baby Fair will be held from March 17 to March 26 at Emart Batu Kawa. It is organised by Sarawak National Youth Organisation ( Saberkas) Kota Sentosa branch and The Champions, a subgroup of Saberkas members.

The organisers paid a courtesy visit to Dr Sim to extend an invitation to him to become the guest- of-honour for the opening ceremony on March 18, to which he has agreed.

Among the visitors were Saberkas Kota Sentosa branch chairman Voon Boon Chieng, vicechairman Aleks Chai, secretary Eugene Yap, The Champions organising chairman JohnPaul Prashanth Davis and other organising committee members.
