KUCHING: Emart Batu Kawa will launch its first ever Emart Baby Fair, happening from March 17 to March 26.

Widely known as a community- serving supermarket, it seeks to broaden its scope by launching the familyoriented and fun- filled baby fair, which is co- organised by Sarawak National Youth Organisation (Saberkas) Kota Sentosa Branch and The Champions, a subgroup of Saberkas members.

With the theme ‘Bringing Families Together’, the Emart Baby Fair 2017 will be launched by Local Government Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian on March 18.

The event places family cohesiveness at the forefront of its objectives, drawing in a crowd of mainly young, growing families. It is aimed at boosting awareness on family healthcare and wellbeing, providing a one-stop centre that caters to the needs of families. It also aims at engaging the community through fun, family- oriented activities as well as stimulating the minds of children through demonstrations.

Besides the 10-day promotional sale of baby products, there will be a wide range of activities to engage an audience of all ages.

Among the highlights of the fair will be free talks and free medical check-ups by medical professionals from Timberland Medical Centre. Topics that will be presented include pregnancy care, child psychology, natural family planning, speech therapy, and more.

Sarawak Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA) will also make an appearance to conduct an adoption drive and hold an animal petting session for early childanimal interaction, which is seen as a part of childhood development.

For children below six, there is a Kids Zone for them to participate in arts and music sessions, while babies will also get their share of excitement in the Coolest Baby Contest and Baby Milk Drinking Competition.

There will also be musical and cultural performances, as well as lucky draws for visitors.

Also in conjunction with the Emart Baby Fair is the fifth edition of Kuching Trunk Sale, a marketplace for people to sell their pre-loved items out of their car trunks. This will be happening on March 25 and 26 from 1pm to 10pm at the main parking lot of Emart Batu Kawa.

Event partners besides Timberland Medical Centre and SSPCA are HAUS KCH, Borneo Talk, Momentum KCH, Single Mothers’ Association, The Filmmakers Company, Kuching In and Out, Heart Treasures and Kopicut.
