‘Embracing changes and upholding Islamic faith can go together’

-

KUCHING: The Muslims in Sarawak should strive to embrace and be adaptable to changes happening around the world without having to forsake their faith and belief.

According to Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, a balance must be struck between the needs for the life in this world and the hereafter.

“Muslims should be with other communities to develop the country; to be part of developing human civilisation which can be done without leaving behind religious values,” he said at a function in Taman Hussien here on Sunday night.

“We must lift up the standard and quality of life of the Muslims, as to ensure that we can be with our brothers and sisters from other religions to develop our country, and also to ensure peace and give assurance to our younger generation.”

Fadillah, who is Petra Jaya MP, advised everyone to be adaptable to changes, particularly in the digital world as highlighted by Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg recently.

“Our chief minister has urged everyone to look into the digital economy as the way to go, and Muslims should be able to embrace that. Everything now is going digital – as far as everyone is concerned, economy is the first thing that has gone digital,” he stressed.

Fadillah said the government, through the National Transformation 2050 ( TN50) initiative, had outlined its direction for the next 30 years which would include all Malaysians, including Muslims.

In this sense, Fadillah also called on mosque and surau communities to utilise their members fully in bringing in and holding programmes on subjects such as technical knowledge, science and mathematics to benefit the local communities that they served.
