Gerawat lauds new committee of PBB Mulu
MIRI: PBB Mulu has a good mix of senior members and young blood in its committee that aspires to be a role model for rural constituencies in Sarawak.
In stating this, Mulu assemblyman Datuk Gerawat Gala said as the new PBB Mulu chairman, he looked forward to working with the main body, youth and women wings of the branch in order to serve the constituency effectively.
“We need wisdom, young blood and aspiration from a very good team comprising the main body, youth and women wings to serve the Mulu constituency effectively,” Gerawat said in his speech after taking over the position of PBB Mulu pro- tem chairman from Datuk Robert Laing Anyie at a meeting held at Grand Place Hotel Miri on Sunday.
Present were Laing, PBB Mulu Women chief Datin Sri Mariam Iboh and PBB Mulu Youth chief Usat Bilong.
According to Gerawat, the new committee should also work together with other component Barisan Nasional ( BN) parties even though PBB is the backbone of Sarawak BN.
As the assemblyman for Mulu, Gerawat automatically becomes the chairman of the branch.
He thanked the party members for giving way for him to lead the team and work together.
“By giving way to a change of guard shows how committed members of this branch are to continue the struggle to fight for the interest of the people,” he said.
At the same time, he thanked all members of PBB Mulu for working very hard in the last election to win the seat, which he said was a good start and urged them to keep up the momentum.
He announced that the PBB Mulu service centre would be launched next month.
Stressing further, he said PBB Mulu supported Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg and had full confidence in him leading the government including introducing new policies.
He said the Orang Ulu community was pleased that Abang Johari had pledged to continue the policies set out by former chief minister, the late Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem, and PBB Mulu also supported PBB’s new deputy presidents.
Commenting on development of the state, Gerawat congratulated Abang Johari for acquiring Bakun dam from the federal government, saying that it showed a very close working relationship between the state and federal governments.
On another note, he said PBB Mulu would like the government to continue developing basic infrastructure in the constituency like roads, electricity and clean water supply and telecommunication services and the Internet.
Meanwhile, besides Gerawat as chairman, the new committtee members of PBB Mulu are Datuk Robert Laing ( deputy chairman), Councillor Simpson Njock Lenjau (vice chairman 1), Usat Bilong (vice chairman II), Datin Sri Mariam Iboh (vice chairman III), Semuel Belawan ( secretary), Andrew Bululok ( assistant secretary), Jeffery Pasang (treasurer), Charlie Baya ( assistant treasurer) and Councillor John Terawe Kuda (information chief).
Ordinary committee members are Councillor Garry Hassim Wan, Tuai Rumah Jimbau Ena, Tuai Rumah Keir Sulang, Tuai Rumah Davis Lalo, Juman Nyuwa, Paul Tingang Buki and Joni Kapong.
Dr Philip Raja was appointed as public relations officer and Sylvester Luhat, Joseph Balan Ngau, Raymond Apoi, Larry Anyi, Joseph Maran and Daud Maran were co- opted as members.
