Perkim Miri gets land for its activity centre on top of new office

-

MIRI: This year not only marks the 25th anniversary of the Malaysian Muslim Welfare Organisation ( Perkim) Miri branch, but also another milestone for the body in that it has received a new office and will be given a plot of land slated for its permanent activity centre.

According to Perkim Miri chairwoman Sharifah Fatimah Tuanku Pauzi, Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak ( TBS) has provided the branch with an office space in the new Miri Islamic Complex.

“The office has been operational since Feb 1. On top of this, we will soon have an activity centre for our members – thanks to the provision of land by the government,” she said during ‘ Perkim Miri Charity Night’ at Meritz Hotel here recently.

Sharifah Fatimah said in 2003, the government allowed Perkim Miri to utilise a government house in Piasau Camp as its office but due to safety reasons, it had to evacuate the house in 2010.

“Since then, we had been without any office. Fortunately, the management of Masjid Darul Ehsan in Piasau has been kind enough to allow us to use its facility for meetings.

“We are also very thankful to the state government for having approved our request for a piece of land to be used as the site for our permanent activity centre. This is a meaningful, historical moment for Perkim Miri,” she said.

On the dinner event, Sharifah Fatimah said it also served to raise funds for the implementation and planning of activities such as welfare, propagation of Islamic teachings, education as well as management and administration of Perkim Miri office.

“Donations will also be channelled to the needy from time to time, depending on what the organisation can afford to give away,” she pointed out.

Meanwhile, Perkim Sarawak chairwoman Dato Hanifah Taib Alsree said the organisation had always been supportive to all activities organised by its branches through cash donations, moral support and consultations.

“However, the Perkim branches are also reminded to come up with their own efforts to raise funds to enable them carry out all their activities,” she said.
