LUNDU: Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia ( MMM) has handed over a Triton pick-up truck to the Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) for the cause of orangutan conservation.

Its chief executive officer Tomoyuki Shinnishi reiterated its corporate responsibility to utilise its innovative strength for the greater improvement of a sustainable future.

MMM, he said, acknowledged Matang Wildlife Centre’s mission ( MWC) to rehabilitate orangutans which are injured, handicapped or suffering from prolonged captivity before reintroducing them back into the wild.

“MMM is proud to assist and to support an organisation that devotes its time for a good cause that does not only limit to rescue work of orangutan in particular, but more than a thousand endangered species,” he said before handing over the Triton pick- up truck to chief executive officer of SFC Wong Ting Chung at the MWC here yesterday.

Shinnishi expressed confidence that the Triton “will assist SFC well in many of its rescue adventures to come, no matter the terrain.”

Earlier, Wong thanked MMM and said Sarawak currently has two wildlife conservation centres — MWC and Semenggoh Wildlife Centre — to rehabilitate animals that were rescued, relocated or surrendered by SFC or the public.

Due to increasing public awareness on wildlife conservation and protection, Wong said both centres are facing growing demands for additional capacities in their work.

as the Triton pick- up truck by MMM this morning ( yesterday) is timely, practical and very much appreciated. We shall use and maintain this vehicle properly so that it will serve MWC well for many years to come.

“In case you are wondering, we shall also be using the truck for related conservation work such as boundary patrolling and protection operations.”

He announced that attractive mural paintings and welcome signage had been put up at MWC as acknowledgement of MMM’s contributions to the centre.

After the simple hand- over ceremony, corporate leaders and staff of MMM were taken on a tour around MWC with members of the media.
