Limbang Division Resident’s house engulfed by fire

-

LIMBANG: A fire destroyed the Limbang Division Resident’s house here on Sunday night but left four government vehicles in a garage nearby untouched.

Limbang firefighters received a distress call at about 9.56pm and rushed a team of 15 personnel to the scene at Bukit Mas Recreation Park, about five kilometres away from the fire station.

Firefighting efforts led by officer Tawang Lingam managed to bring the fire under control at about 11.07pm. The operation was concluded at 12.22am.

The firefighters used four hosing streams with eight nozzles, including a relay pump sourcing water from Bukit Mas Lake and Limbang River.

According to the Fire and Rescue Department ( Bomba), the house structure was totally destroyed but the four vehicles in the garage were saved with defensive action taken by two personnel there.

Meanwhile, no injuries or casualties were reported in the incident while losses have yet to be ascertained.

Limbang Resident Datu Maria Hasman said the building had been empty for about two decades and was empty of any valuable assets at the time of the fire.

“The last Resident to stay there was Gary Tay and the losses are confined mostly to the structure,” he said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation and forensic experts from Kuching would be called in to investigate it, although initial suspicion points to a lightning strike.

“Lightning was reported doing the time of incident but the forensic experts will ascertain the actual cause of fire,” he said.
