Pupils attend course to enhance preparations for UPSR

-

KAPIT: Six primary schools from Lower Rajang Zone took part in ‘Program Minggu Menjulang Impian’ ( MMI Programme) at SK Nanga Yong near here recently.

The schools were the host SK Nanga Yong, SK Nanga Ibau, SK Nanga Trusa, SK Nanga Segenok, SK Lepong Menuan and SK Sungai Menuan.

The MMI Programme, among others, was to improve students’ performance in Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah ( UPSR) by enhancing their confidence, skill and technique in answering questions in the examination.

The programme was also to provide an effective learning experience for the students to study in groups both in and outside the class while at the same time encouraging the active participation of the school management, the parents-teachers associations ( PTAs) and the local community in the activities organised by the schools.

In his remark at the start of the programme, Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat said students’ academic performance is the collective responsibility of all — the teachers, students themselves and their parents, and board of management.

“The teachers who were trained and equipped with the required knowledge play their role by educating the students to the best of their ability through innovative and creative methods of teaching. The students on their part need to study hard to achieve excellent academic performance while parents play the supportive role to ensure that their children do their revision and homework and nurture in them good moral values and discipline,” he said.

“On the other hand, the school management ensures that the school is a place conducive for learning by providing the necessary teaching aid and facilities,” Jamit added.

While schools have done all they could do to prepare the pupils for the examination, it is of utmost importance that parents fully cooperate with the schools, he further said.

“Take care of your children at home, make sure they do revision and are well prepared to sit for the examination by getting ready what they need like eraser, 4B pencil, writing paper and so forth,” he advised.

Jamit also reminded the parents on the importance of education as a stepping stone to a better future.

“Children are parents’ asset. Therefore, in order to turn them into valuable assets, parents must prepare them to be successful and education is the tool to success.

“Armed with quality education and relevant knowledge, one can attain higher social position and go a step further as compared to those with little education,” he said, adding that education is universally recognised as a tool to get rid of poverty and improve one’s social-economic status.

He advised the Primary 6 pupils to ‘study smart’ and fully use what they had learnt at the MMI programme in order to excel in the coming UPSR examination.

Among those present at the function were a political secretary to the chief minister Tapah Ata, Joseph Elo and Saiful Annuar from the Kapit Education Office, SK Nanga Yong headmaster Dennis Rabar, SK Nanga Trusa headmaster Henry Penghulu Bunsu, SK Nanga Ibau headmaster Lansi Blassan, SK Nanga Segenok headmaster Sandi Ujang , SK Lepong Menuan headmaster Rambo Usoh, SK Sungai Menuan headmaster Mege Ujan, Lidam Assan from Petronas, chairmen of the PTAs of the six participating schools, community leaders and parents.
