JCI Damai installs Grace Lee as president
KUCHING: Junior Chamber International (JCI) Damai celebrated its 29th Installation and Awards Banquet at Imperial Hotel here recently with the installation of Grace Lee as new president and the Board of Directors.
Lee, who took over the helm from immediate past president Gavin Tay, was sworn in as the 29th JCI Damai president.
Other highlights at the luncheon included the installation of the new JCI Damai Board of Directors for 2017 and the induction of new members.
Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang, who was guest- of-honour at the luncheon, also addressed those present.
“JCI Damai has achieved excellence in Kuching for 28 years with the secretariat located at Pending area and it is well known as a non-profit organisation in it areas of leadership training through community betterment services. It offers self- development training and activities on leadership skills, teamwork and project planning.
“As we enter a new era, I believe JCI Damai will excel to even greater heights in the future with even more successful achievements and positive outcomes. To JCI Damai 29th President Grace Lee and her Board of Directors, I wish to congratulate them on being elected for their respective posts, taking the challenge to lead and manage JCI Damai in 2017,” he said.
Lo said JCI, as a non-profit organisation of young active citizen’s aged between 18 and 40, was very engaged and committed in creating an impact in the community.
He emphasised that more opportunities should be given to youths and this could be an alternative to sharpen their mentality particularly so with regards to managing unpredictable crisis in the future.
“Therefore, I am here to encourage more young people to participate and join this organisation for future developments and leadership roles,” he added.
Other interesting highlights at the luncheon include performances by JCI members and special children from the Sarawak Society for Parents of Children with Special Needs ( Pibakat).
Among those present were JCI Malaysia national president Nurul-Huda Mohamed Afandi, JCI Malaysia national executive president cum Sarawak area chairman Samantha Yong, organising chairman Xavier Lee, and Kang Bong Jin of The Sisterhood JCI Seoul Gwanak.
