-

The Kuching Run for Autism 2017 which was held in conjunction with the World Autism Day last Sunday was a success as it managed to attract 2,094 participants.

Kuching Autistic Association ( KAA) organised the event to create acceptance of children and adults with autism by parents, relatives, friends and society while raising funds for KAA.

It was supported by Revolution Run Co and City Jogger’s Club, Kuching.

KAA is grateful to Kuching South City Council ( MBKS) mayor Datuk James Chan for flagging off the 3km run and to Tecktonic & Sons Holdings Sdn Bhd representative Lee Chin Teck for flagging off the 7km run from the MBKS compound.

KAA is also grateful to be able to raise RM105,500 in generous donations from Gala City ( San Chin-BBC JV Sdn Bhd), Tecktonic & Sons Holdings Sdn Bhd, Lee Onn, Cahya Mata Sarawak ( CMS), Sarawak Convention Bureau, Perbadanan Kemajuan Perusahaan Kayu Sarawak ( Pusaka), Quality Concrete (QC), Syarikat Pembinaan Mantap, I-Metal ( M) Sdn Bhd, Sarawak Energy Berhad, Trienekens (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd, other sponsors and participants.

The amount raised provides the much-needed funds to sustain KAA’s educational programme for children aged four to 17 years.

Funds are also needed for the young adults’ vocational training, living skills training and income- generating projects that will enable young adults with autism to take small steps towards greater independence.

KAA also thanks lucky draw sponsors H& L Supermarket, Riverside Hotel Kuching, Grand Margherita Hotel, Hilton Kuching, Permai Rainforest Resort, Union Yes Retreat and Training Centre, and Revolution Run Co, as well as Mary Lau, Annie Ho Chui Leng and Low Guan Yuan.

The next KAA fundraising activity will be the ‘KAA Charity Food Fair’ on July 30 from 8am to 12pm at the Association of Churches, Jalan Stampin. For more information, contact Connie Yeo (019-8198928) or the KAA office at 082- 686363.
