Sarawak Energy contributes RM100,000 to charity fund
Sarawak Energy has contributed RM100,000 to a charity fund in aid of the healthy development and education of children living in rural Sarawak.
The Charity Golf for Rural Kids Education event on April 30 at the Samarahan Country Club is raising donations for the fund, which will be channelled through the MyKasih Foundation.
Sarawak Energy Group CEO Sharbini Suhaili symbolically handed over the donation to Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who is also event patron, yesterday.
“Sarawak Energy is pleased to be a part of this charity event that seeks to provide educational development aid to children in the rural reaches of Sarawak. Education sets the foundation for a more secure future for our young Sarawakians who will one day form the workforce that drives the state’s progress,” said Sharbini.
“We allocate an annual RM8 million in scholarships to help young Sarawakians from every part of the state, who meet the scholarship’s criteria, to achieve their dreams. We have many programmes under this thrust, and this will form part of this.”
Sarawak Energy is actively involved in programmes designed to power the capacity building of young Sarawakians.
“To ensure sustainable development, we have been proactive in supporting the education needs of our project affected communities and we continue to support them in this area till today,” said Sarawak Energy executive vice-president for corporate services Aisah Eden.
These initiatives include building two primary schools in Murum in partnership with the Ministry of Education giving more than 300 pupils access to formal education, enabling more than 500 Penan adults to read and write through Sarawak Energy’s fl agship Murum Penan Literacy Programme, providing an annual contribution of RM200,000 to the Bakun Trust Fund to encourage academic excellence among the communities in Belaga, and special funding for skills training and internship for youths from Baleh and Kapit.
Among those present at the handing over were State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani, Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting, and Sarawak Energy chairman Datuk Amar Abdul Hamed Sepawi.
