PSC received 1.56 mln applications for 25,046 job vacancies in 2016
THE Public Service Commission ( PSC) received 1.56 million applications last year to fill 25,046 job vacancies in the public sector.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Joseph Entulu Belaun said to ensure that only quality candidates were selected, each application received would go through a rigorous screening process.
“PSC receives a lot of applications each year from candidates who want to serve the government but permanent job opportunities available each year are so limited.
“In 2015, the PSC received 1.63 million applications but the vacancies available were only 24,606,” he said during a questionand-answer session in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.
Entulu said the high number of applications each year made it easier for PSC to make selections to fill the vacancies.
The minister said that currently, PSC was using the profilingbased recruitment method, MyRecruitment, for most of the public service schemes to select the best candidates.
He said there were four stages in the selection process of the candidate before the appointment was offered, namely initial screening, online examination, competency assessment and the interview.
“Candidates who do not meet the initial screening will not be called upon to take the online exam.
“Candidates who do not pass the online exam will not be called for the competency assessment and candidates who do not pass the competency assessment will not be called for an interview,” he said.
He also said that candidates’ applications in the PSC system would be screened by the computer based on specific criteria set out in the service schemes, tailored specifically for a certain post. — Bernama THE bills to legalise ‘e-hailing’ services such as Uber and Grabcar were tabled at the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.
