Checks on chicken wings will continue — KPDNKK
SIBU: The Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism ( KPDNKK) will continue to carry out checks on chicken wings in the marketplace to ensure they are from proper sources.
In giving this assurance, KPDNKK Sibu chief Kasim Mana said from their checks here yesterday, they did not come across chicken wings dug out from a site near Bukit Aup being sold in the market.
“We advise the public not to worry because if there are chicken wings from that source (a site near Bukit Aup), they will no longer be in circulation by now.
“The important thing is to buy from established and trusted sources. Our men are carrying out checks regularly in the market,” he said.
Kasim was speaking to reporters after carrying out a spot check at a CCK outlet in Sungai Merah here yesterday.
Meanwhile, the outlet’s assistant area manager Ling Nang Ung said their sales of chicken wings were not affected by the news on chicken wings dug out from a site in Bukit Aup here that went viral on Facebook and WhatsApp.
“Our chicken wings are from our own farm in Kuching and therefore, rest assured that they are safe for consumption. We also have Halal certificate,” Ling said.
He added that the checks by KPDNKK also showed that they complied with the necessary requirements.
Ling said four out of their six outlets had been inspected and they expected the ministry to also inspect the remaining two yesterday.
It was reported that many people had shied away from eating chicken wings after news of chicken wings dug out from a site at Bukit Aup went viral.
Separately in Kuching, KPDNKK had warned that stern action would be taken against those selling the rejected chicken wings.
Its state enforcement director Abdul Hafidz A Rahim said the ministry would take action under Section 23 of the Consumer Protection Act against those selling the chicken wings that they collected from the site.
He pointed out that it is an offence under Section 23 of the Consumer Protection Act to sell unsafe goods to consumers, and an offender can be fined not more than RM250,000 or jailed for three years or both if convicted.
KPDNKK deputy chief Ganda Jirap joined the surprise inspection.
