SMK Wira Penrissen moves forward with help of its PTA
KUCHING: Education is an important aspect of life and everyone in the community should support and cooperate with parent-teacher associations ( PTAs) for the good of the students.
Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang who is also Padawan Municipal Council chairman said this at SMK Wira Penrissen’s 18th PTA annual general meeting here recently. It was attended by more than 370 parents and teachers.
Lo pledged to provide financial assistance to the PTA to benefit students.
The parents were enlightened on information regarding drug abuse by Nadia Muhd Hazmi, an officer from the National Anti Drug Agency (AADK) of Kuching District.
She reminded parents to consistently check their children’s school bags for substances such as cigarettes or syabu.
Principal Affandi Rosli also spoke at the function, mostly on the significance of mastering Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, and teaching and learning approaches in the classroom. He also talked on the importance of creating an English- speaking environment in the school’s Highly Immersion Programme (HIP).
He said the success of HIP depended on collaboration among the principal as the anchor, teachers as doers, students as learners, and parents as supporters of the programme.
Pengiran Samsudine Pengiran Tambi who was elected unopposed as PTA chairman pledged to do his best to enhance the school’s facilities for the use of students.
On the list of new office-bearers for the 2017-2019 term are Zaidi Sarbini as deputy chairman, Mas Salleh Gusti (secretary), Reena Eralind Jostan (assistant secretary), Voon Siaw Ching (treasurer) and Jee Jia Yang (assistant treasurer).
The Zone representatives are Raden Sugihati Siswano (Taman Landeh), Michael Toyad Merden ( Mile 9), Asri Bujang ( Haji Baki), Jennifer Densel ( Kota Sentosa), Vitus George ( Penrissen Camp), Dramawati Anis ( Samarindah) and Mariana Abdullah as parents’ representative.
The teachers were represented by Mohammad Yazed Samat, Faredah Bujang, Pang Sait Ying and Vanessa Tati Jaidi. Saniah Morni is the auditor while Chiew Soon Nguong and Temiji Sabu are asset inspectors.
