SIBU: Sibu Rural District Council ( SRDC) held a dialogue with operator of ‘ Smokehouse’ barbecue joints ( Rumah Asap) in Sibu Jaya to discuss location and structure.

SRDC chairman Sempurai Petrus Ngelai stressed that operators of Rumah Asap should abide by the council rules and regulations, especially on cleanliness.

“Currently, Rumah Asap structure is temporary in nature as the council has decided in the Public Health Standing Committee that it is illegal.

“The council will look for a winwin situation for the traders on location and structure that are organised and clean,” he said at a dialogue session held at Rumah Asap yesterday

Sempurai said the present Rumah Asap location and structure are an eyesore and without proper amenities.

“I did advise the operator and their customers to make full use of the council toilet at the ‘ tamu’ opposite Rumah Asap.

“I hope all the traders will abide by our cleanliness regulations especially clean their surroundings from rubbish and mosquito breeding places,” he said.

SRDC deputy chairman councillor Robert Lau, SRDC secretary Justani Joni and other SRDC councillors were also present.
