Expand Gawai Dayak bazaar to Niah — MP

-

MIRI: Organisers of the Gawai Dayak bazaar (GDB) have been asked to expand the bazaar to Niah.

During a courtesy call by the organisers – Persatuan Gagasan Anak Dayak Sarawak (GADS) – on Wednesday, Sibuti member of Parliament Ahmad Lai Bujang said the bazaar could be held in Niah, but with a different concept to suit the needs of residents there.

“I am hoping to see GADS organise similar events in Sibuti, particularly in Niah, by involving the local folk.

“This will definitely give opportunities to rural folk with an interest in business to start it small by participating in the bazaar, and at the same time gain some valuable experience,” he said.

He added the bazaar was also a good way for participants to earn extra income for the coming Gawai Dayak celebration.

Ahmad Lai added that activities organised in conjunction with the bazaar could attract many visitors, including from outside the area, to the rural town.

GDB 2017 will take place on May 6-12 from 3pm to 11.30pm daily at the Emart Riam carpark area.
