Refer drug addict children to rehab centres, parents urged

-

MIRI: Parents should not shut their eyes if any member of their the family is known to be involved in drug activities.

Assistant Minister for Solidarity Rosey Yunus instead wanted parents to send their children to receive proper treatment at drug rehabilitation centres.

“Having a drug addict in the family is not something a family should be proud of. We must not let this problem remain unsolved. Refer the drug addicts to anti- drug relevant authorities,” she said when officiating at Miri Division National Unity and Integration’s ‘Jom Ronda Voluntary Patrolling Scheme’ (SRS) programme at Kpg Piasau Utara here on Thursday.

Rosey, who is also Bekenu assemblywoman, wanted the villagers to play their role in ridding their village of the drug menace.

“There is nothing wrong to mind other people’s business if it is for the good of all. Drug addiction is now a major problem among youths, which leads to other social ills such as housebreaking, i llegal motorcycle racing, snatching, glue- sniffing and many more.

Touching on SRS, she said it was vital in helping the police protect neighbourhoods from crime activities.

“The concept of this programme was introduced in 2012 and its main objective is to motivate members to continue to keep the peace and harmony in neighbourhoods.”

Earlier, the SRS team of Kg Piasau Utara attended a safety education talk at the village community hall.

Three topics were presented. They were ‘ Treatment and Rehabilitation under Drug Addict Act’, ‘ Community First Aid for Emergency Cases’ and the ‘Operation of SRS Neigbourhood Committee Act 2012’.
