PBB divisions ready for GE14 – Rohani

-

KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu ( PBB) Wanita vice- chief Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim yesterday said all of the party’s divisions were gearing up for the 14th general election (GE14).

The Batang Lupar MP said PBB would not face any major issue in preparations for the coming parliamentary election, given that Sarawak just had its state polls last year.

“All PBB divisions are prepared for the coming election. We had our state election last year, so we can still use the same machinery,” she said when responding to a question during a press conference here.

Rohani, who is Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, said personnel of the Special Affairs Department (Jasa) had been moving on the ground all the time.

She added that the government arm had been playing a role of assisting the party in its election preparation.

In the 2013 general election, Rohani defended Batang Lupar for PBB after defeating Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s Abang Zulkifli Abang Engkeh by a comfortable majority of 10,964 votes.

The last state election was held on May 7, 2016 while the last general election took place on May 5, 2013.

The Constitution of Malaysia requires that a general election be held at least once every five years.

As such, the 13th Parliament of Malaysia will automatically dissolve on June 24, 2018 and the GE14 has to be called on or before Aug 24, 2018.

However, the prime minister can ask the Yang di- Pertuan Agong to dissolve Parliament at any time before this five-year period has expired.

A general election should be held no later than two months after the dissolution of the Parliament.
